Tayrona National Park is one of Colombia’s most beautiful and biodiverse natural reserves, offering a variety of activities ranging from hiking to swimming in pristine beaches.
Hikes in Tayrona National Park:
Arrecifes to Cabo San Juan
Duration: 1.5-2 hours (one way)
This is a shorter and more accessible trail starting from the Arrecifes area. It’s an easier hike that leads you along the coast with amazing views, eventually reaching the peaceful and beautiful Cabo San Juan beach.
La Pueblita and Pueblito Chairama
Duration: 4-5 hours (round trip)
This more challenging hike leads you to the Pueblito Chairama, an ancient indigenous site of the Tayrona people. Along the way, you’ll encounter stunning landscapes and learn about the history of the indigenous tribes that lived here. It’s an immersive way to experience both nature and culture.
The Hike to the Taironaka Archaeological Site
Duration: 2-3 hours (round trip)
This hike takes you to the lesser-known Taironaka archaeological site, home to ancient indigenous ruins. It's a fascinating cultural journey and offers scenic views of the Don Diego River.
Beaches to Swim At:
Cabo San Juan
This is one of the most iconic beaches in Tayrona, known for its white sand, clear waters, and dramatic rocky outcrops. It’s great for swimming, although the waters can be a bit rough at times. The area also has campsites and cabins if you want to spend the night.
La Piscina (The Pool)
A calm, sheltered cove ideal for swimming. The water here is warm and crystal clear, making it perfect for a relaxing swim. It’s surrounded by large rocks, providing protection from strong waves, so it's often a family-friendly spot.
Arrecifes
Though stunning with its clear waters and striking coastline, Arrecifes can have strong currents, so swimming is not recommended here. However, it’s a great spot for beachcombing and enjoying the scenery.
Playa Cristal
A more tranquil beach, Playa Cristal offers calm waters perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing. It’s one of the best beaches for clear visibility under the water, so it’s great for those wanting to explore marine life.
