Manioc Biscuit Factory - H. Rault Co Ltd.
This isn’t a restaurant in the traditional sense, but a historic biscuit factory that doubles as a cultural stop — perfect for a travel-food story with a twist. Founded in around 1870, the Rault family began making “biscuits manioc” (cassava biscuits) when cassava had been introduced into Mauritius in the 1700s originally as animal feed. During the First World War, when wheat imports tightened, these cassava-based biscuits became surprisingly essential, ramping up the factory’s production. Today the factory welcomes visitors curious to see traditional methods in action, sample biscuits, and soak up a unique slice of Mauritian heritage.
Zub Express
Perched along the Coastal Road in Mauritius’s sun-drenched Flic-en-Flac, Zub Express offers an inviting blend of Indian and Chinese cuisine which has become a staple for both locals and travelers. My favorite was the garlic naan and butter chicken!
Kenzi Bar Resto
Tucked away in Flic-en-Flac on Nenuphar Avenue, Kenzi Bar Resto is that local-favorite bar-restaurant where live music, burgers, cocktails and a laid-back garden converge. With African-style décor, lantern-lit outdoor seating and a mix of locals and tourists mingling, it captures the after-sunset vibe of coastal Mauritius.
Flying DoDo Brewing Co.
The first craft brewery in Mauritius (founded ~2011), Flying Dodo set out to stir up the beer scene on the island with small-batch, unpasteurized, unfiltered beers brewed with local ingredients.
Twin’s Garden II
Nestled along the scenic Coastal Road of Flic‑en‑Flac on Mauritius’s west coast, Twin’s Garden II is where relaxed al-fresco dining meets lively island-night energy. Located in a lush garden-setting off the main beach strip, it’s a destination that rewards both the foodie and the night-owls. On Friday nights, they host a dedicated Mauritian Séga dance and buffet evening, where traditional drums (ravanne) and guitars set the rhythm for live dancers — a vibrant way to experience local culture through music, movement and food. Twin’s Garden II is perfect as a story of ‘day to night’ in Mauritius: you can arrive at sunset, enjoy a leisurely dinner in the garden, then stay on for live music and dancing.
The Bamboo Restaurant & Bar
Situated in the Blue Bay Marine Park, this heritage setting turned modern lounge-restaurant is perfect where you can dine on local Creole dishes or grab a wood-fired pizza with a cocktail in hand.
