Kerry

Ring of Kerry is one of Ireland’s most scenic driving routes, offering stunning landscapes and fascinating historical sites.

The Kerry Cliffs offer dramatic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Skellig Islands. The cliffs rise nearly 1,000 feet above the sea, providing breathtaking panoramas of the rugged coastline, islands, and nearby Blasket Islands.

Word of advice…BE CAREFUL on the windy roads!

Tour buses dominate the Ring of Kerry, forcing your rental car off the road for them to pass. Watch for rocks and sharp stones when pulling aside. We unfortunately got a flat tire in a dangerous spot, but the friendly Irish helped us out quickly.

Along your way around the Ring of Kerry, be sure to make stops at:

  • Sneem, a charming village known for its colorful buildings, traditional Irish atmosphere, and peaceful riverside setting.

  • Cahersiveen, home to Bád Eddie, a famous shipwreck, and is close to the ancient Staigue Fort, a well-preserved Iron Age stone fort.

  • Skellig Michael, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

  • Valentia Island, accessible by bridge, the island offers scenic drives, stunning coastal views, and the historic Gallarus Oratory, a 6th-century stone structure.

  • Ladies View Restaurant which takes its name from this iconic viewpoint, named after Queen Victoria's ladies-in-waiting, who admired the landscape during their visit in the 19th century.

  • Kenmare Bay is a stunning inlet on the southwest coast of Ireland. Known for its breathtaking views, the bay is surrounded by lush green hills and dotted with small islands, making it a popular spot for boat trips, kayaking, and scenic drives.

  • Get your toes sandy along the Derrynane and Ballinskelligs beaches while admiring the abbeys that sit along the water’s edge.
